| So I signed up for the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon and the Royal Family 5K yesterday. The 5K (3 miles) is going to be on Saturday March 7th and the 1/2 Marathon (13 miles) is on the 8th. My friend Sarah is going to run the 5K with me but I'm still looking for someone to run with for the 1/2 Marathon. I ran 8 miles yesterday morning and it was really hard. I have about 6 more weeks of training before the event so I should be able to add on that extra 5. It feels really good to get back into running again. I run every once in a while but it's really hard to stick to when I don't have a goal that I'm working toward.
In other news, it looks like Disney will be sending to California again for a month in May. | | |
| Brian and I had a pretty good day today on his birthday. I made him Swedish pancakes for breakfast and they turned out really well. It was raining early in the day so we waited until the afternoon to go out. We went to the Orlando Art Museum for about an hour because there was an exhibit that Brian wanted to see. The exhibit was for William Joyce, who is an author and illustrator of children’s books. The rest of the museum didn’t have very much stuff and wasn’t that interesting. We probably won’t go there again unless there’s another good exhibit. The Portland Art Museum is much better. After the museum we drove downtown because we’ve never been there. It was really not all that exciting. I’ve seen much better downtown areas, like Portland, Seattle, Detroit, Phoenix, etc. and downtown Orlando was very small and boring in comparison. The only thing that I really liked about downtown was Lake Eola. It’s right in the center of town and has a fountain and you can rent paddle boats that look like swans. It was very beautiful. There were ducks, swans, and some tropical birds that I’ve only seen in Florida. There were mangrove trees growing in the water near the shore, I was surprised to see those because I though they only grew in the everglades. Brian stopped to take pictures of some squirrels that were running around. After that we went to a barbecue restaurant called Smokey Bones. We were planning on going to play miniature golf when we were done eating but we both felt sick afterwards so we just went home instead. On the whole it was a pretty good day. | | |
| My new job is so awesome. I'm working with the test engineering group at Disney World. Basically we do tests on the rides to make sure they're working properly for guest safety. This week I worked day shift my first two days and did a couple of minor tests on The Land at EPCOT and Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios. On my first day my boss took us out to lunch in Mexico at EPCOT, which is one of my favorite restaurants on property. Yesterday was my first big test. We were testing the g-forces on a rider in the drop shafts of Tower of Terror, which is my favorite ride. I worked from 3pm to about 5am so I got a lot of overtime. Tonight and tomorrow morning I'm going to be testing the strain on a wheel of one of the steam trains at Magic Kingdom, I'll probably be there from 8pm to 8am. I really like the group I'm working with and the girl who's training me. She's going to be leaving in about a month so hopefully I'll get a lot of useful training in that time since I'm basically taking over her responsibilities. This job is way better then being a mechanic at Space Mountain. I love that we get to work at all of the parks and learn all of the ride systems. | | |
| Things have been wierd and sort of depressing lately but all that is about to change. I've been working graveyard at Space Mtn for two months. The shift isn't really that bad because I have the evenings off and at first I was spending all of my evenings with Brian. Splash Mtn just reopened a few weeks ago after it's winter refurbishment and since then Brian has been working 10 to 16 hr shifts. This really sucks for me because I only see him for a couple hours in the morning and I usually leave for work before he gets home. I've been coping with this by hanging out with friends and going to theme parks, but I really need to see Brian. Fortunately I start my new job with the test engineering group on monday. I will mostly be working during the day and will only need to work after park hours a couple nights a week. This will at least allow Brian and I to see eachother at night and I won't have to sleep alone as often. | | |
